Conférence Protagoras : Big Tech, Raiders or Gatekeepers of Democratic Interplay?

Date:
09/10/2024 - 18:30 - 21:00

Today, political organisations simply cannot operate without Big Tech, whose growing economic power has made them increasingly pivotal in the political landscape of our democracies. The technological opportunities these “giants” offer are as vast as the organisational challenges they pose, raising critical questions about the frameworks and constraints they place on political actors as they strive to connect with citizens. The latest issue of the Cahiers PROTAGORAS dives right into these pressing issues, through six compelling contributions.

Protagoras is partnering with Cronos Europa to organise a launch event for this new issue of the Cahiers PROTAGORAS, on the 9th of October 2024 at 7 PM, at IHECS (Loft58, rue de l'Etuve 58-60, Brussels). This event is a unique opportunity to hear some of the authors present their articles, as well as to launch discussions and debates that can continue during the networking cocktail which will close the event, bringing together researchers, communication professionals, and industry representatives.

Confirmed speakers

Lucas Kins is a PhD candidate in Political Sciences at the Université libre de Bruxelles. His research focuses on online electoral campaigns and their implications for party organisation. At the event, he will present his study on how political staff in various European countries are responding to the digitalisation of political parties, conducted in collaboration with the Universitat de Valencia (Spain) and the University of Luxembourg,

Former New Media Officer at the S&D Group in the European Parliament, Marzia Buonaroti is a member of PROTAGORAS, and an assistant lecturer in communication at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB).
