A seminar entitled "Women and the media" hosted by the Journalism department
Several recent studies, published by association des journalistes professionnels (AJP) [Association of Professional Journalists (APJ)] and Reporters sans frontières (RSF) [Reporters Without Borders] show the extent of sexist stereotypes in the processing of information. The Journalism department, in partnership with the journalists’ collective "Prenons la Une", organised a study day aimed at accelerating student awareness of gender inequalities within the media.
The motive was to understand the mechanisms for deconstructing preconceived ideas, to analyse and evaluate existing systems, to work on journalistic practices and writing and to study the charter of ten golden rules for fair and respectful media treatment.
This training seminar, comprising both theoretical and practical components, enabled participants to address theoretical concepts and ongoing transformation issues within the media through case studies and various exercises conducted in subgroups. The students also wrote essays based on subjects they had researched through the use of sources.
This day concludes the various initiatives and activities of this first quadrimester on the themes of gender equality and the department’s educational project on pluralistic and citizen-oriented information, aimed at stimulating democratic debate within our society.
